Volume 1 of Woman Belong in History Books was written to record remarkable women in Herkimer and Oneida Counties. The project, began in 1987 when the Herkimer County Historical Society decided a new county history was needed.

Volume 2 of Woman Belong in History Books finishes the work started in Volume 1 to fill a void in local history. Researching the 19th and 20th century county histories, all written by men, there is rarely mention of women. The daily challenges women faced to have children, see all were fed, clothed, educated and make to feel responsible and caring human beings was enormous. Also it was exciting to discover the single women who reached out to the world around them to develop different solutions to problems.
